You want to trim traps in a job using two methods. You want to first automatically trim traps during the refine process, and then interactively trap trims using the Trap Editor.

Create a job

  1. If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
  2. In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
  3. Type the job name XX_Trap_Trimming (where <XX> represents your initials).
  4. Click Create.
  5. Minimize the Job Manager window.

Copy an input file to the job folder and add input files to the job

  1. From your workstation, locate: Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_42_Trap Trimming / Input File
  2. Restore Job Manager.
  3. Open the Input File folder. 
  4. Drag the HickoryLogo.pdf file to the Job Manager's Input Files area.
  5. In the Add Input Files dialog box that appears, under Options, click Select and select the 1stRef-Normz refine process template.
  6. Click OK.
    Your file is copied to the UserDefinedFolders folder.
  7. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK to start the Refine process.
  8. Open the HickoryLogo.p1.pdf page in Adobe Acrobat.
  9. Make note of the size of the text and specifically of the word "naturally" and "HICKORY".
  10. Close the Adobe Acrobat window.

Enable trap trimming during the refine process

  1. In the Pages pane, select the HickoryLogo.p1.pdf page.
  2. From the Process menu, select the process template: Refine > Refine > 2ndRef-MapColors.
  3. In the Start Process dialog box, click the Edit Process Template button.
  4. Enable the Trap function.
  5. In the Trap Settings section, change the trap size (height and width) from 0.25 pt to 3.0 pt
    Note: The setting of 3.0 is used only to illustrate the trap trimming feature. It is not a recommended trap width to use.
  6. In the Geometry section, select Automatic in the Trap Trimming box.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Start Process dialog box, Click OK.
  9. Open the newly refined HickoryLogo.p1.pdf page in Adobe Acrobat.
  10. Using the zoom tool, enlarge the Hickory and naturally text.
    Note: The trap line is held away from the text to prevent the trap line from choking (or thinning) the look of the text.
  11. Quit Adobe Acrobat.
  12. In Job Manager, right-click the HickoryLogo.p1.pdf and choose Delete Page.

Enable trap trimming using the Kodak PDF trap editor

  1. From the Input Files pane, right-click the HickoryLogo.pdf file and choose the process template: Refine > Refine > 1stRef-Normz.
  2. Open HickoryLogo.p1.pdf in Adobe Acrobat.
  3. In Acrobat, click the Kodak PDF Trap Editor button on the toolbar to start PDF Trap Editor.
  4. Click the Trap Page icon.
  5. In the Trap Page dialog box General view, change the Trap Size from 0.25 pt. to 3.0 pt.
    Note: The setting of 3.0 is used only to illustrate the trap trimming feature. It is not a recommended trap width to use.
  6. In the Geometry view, select Automatic in the Trap Trimming box.
    Note: You may need to click Show Detailed to see the Geometry information.
  7. Click the Trap Page button.
  8. Using the zoom tool enlarge the Hickory and naturally text.
    Note: The trap line is held away from the text to prevent the trap line from choking (or thinning) the look of the text.
  9. From the File menu, select Save.
  10. Close the trapped PDF file and save the changes.
  11. Close XX_Trap_Trimming Job Manager.
