Spot colors in input files
You will need to evaluate the spot colors in your input files and the spot colors you expect on final output to determine the best workflow to follow. Select the workflow below that best describes your job.

  • Your input files, either separated or composite. For example, you have CMYK plus two spot colors on input and you want to output six separations.
If your input files are composite, you can trap or color match in this workflow. For more information, see Not reducing spot color.
  • Your composite input files contain more or different spot colors than you want to output and you want to Convert all spot colors to process.
  • Your composite input files contain more or different spot colors than you want to output, and you choose Reducing spot colors during output.
Trapping and color matching (available for composite input files only) are not recommended with this workflow.
  • Your composite input files contain more or different spot colors than you want to output, and you want Reducing spot colors during refine.
This is the recommended workflow for trapping or color matching and extra spot colors.
Note: Select this workflow if none of the other three choices describes your job.

Spot colors from marks in imposition plan

If the marks from your imposition plan contain spot colors that you do not want on the final output (for example, SSiCustom100, Spot 01), in the Process Start dialog box, click Color, and map each unwanted spot color to an output separation.

Proofing spot colors on CMYK devices

When your files have spot colors that you need to proof on a CMYK device, the system uses the spot color's process color information stored in the color database to create the CMYK output.

For color management information, see Color matching.
