You want to output an 8-page booklet as a signature booklet. You need to create the proof using an imposition output process template.

Create a job

  1. If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
  2. In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
  3. Type the job name XX_Signature_Books (where <XX> represents your initials).
  4. Click Create.
  5. Minimize the Job Manager window.

Copy an input file and imposition plan to the job folder

  1. From your workstation, locate: Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_19_Signature Book
  2. Copy the Input File and Imposition folders.
  3. Restore Job Manager.
  4. Right-click the XX_Signature_Books job folder icon in the lower left corner of Job Manager. Select Open Job Folder in File Browser.
  5. In the XX_Signature_Books folder, open UserDefinedFolders.
  6. Paste the Input File and Imposition folders into UserDefinedFolders.
  7. Close the job folder.

Create a signature booklet process template

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Process Template Editor.
  2. Right-click the Imposition Output group, and select New Process Template Group.
  3. Enter a name for your group. Type XXSignatureBooklets (where <XX> represents your initials).
  4. Right-click the new group and select New Process Template.
  5. From the File menu, select Save.
  6. In the Save Process Template dialog box, enter a name for your new process template. Type XX2UpSignatureBooklets (where <XX> represents your initials).
  7. Click the Create Process Template button.
  8. In the Output To window, select PDF (Vector output).
  9. Open the Layout section. Locate the Signature Booklet area.
  10. Place a check mark beside Enable Signature Booklet and make the following selections:
    • Type = 2 up
    • Document Binding = Left
  11. Open the File Format section. Locate the Document Format option and select Multi Page.
  12. Open the Device section.
  13. Locate the Device Path window and verify the device path: %JOB%/Proofs.
    The Signature Booklet PDF will be located in this folder.
    Note: If you would prefer to create a customized folder to store signature booklets, create and name a new folder in your Job folder, and then point the device path to the customized folder instead of the default Proofs folder.
  14. From the File menu, select Save.
  15. Close the imposition output process template.
  16. Close Process Template Editor.

Add and refine the input file

  1. Right-click the Input Files pane and choose Add Input Files.
  2. In the Add Input Files dialog box, click the Job Folder button and locate: UserDefinedFolders/Input Files/ Type Brochure.pdf.
  3. Click the Add Selected button to add the file to the Files to Add list.
  4. In the Options section of the Add Input Files dialog box, select the Process Selected Files Using Process Template check box. and use the process template: Refine > Refine > 1stRef-Normz.
  5. In the Add Input Files dialog box, click OK.
  6. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.

Impose PDF pages

  1. Select the Signatures view.
  2. From the File menu, choose Import Imposition.
  3. In the Import Imposition dialog box, click the Job Folder button and locate: UserDefinedFolders / Imposition / Type Brochure.jdf.
  4. Click Import.
  5. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
  6. In the Pages pane, right-click Type Brochure.p1.pdf and choose Select All Pages.
  7. Right-click any selected PDF page and select Assign Page to Position. Verify that the PDF page numbers are associated with the correct page set positions.
  8. Click OK.

Proof the imposition using the signature booklet process template

  1. Right-click the TypeBrochure imposition plan and choose the process template: Imposition Output > XXSignatureBooklets > XX2UpSignatureBooklets.
  2. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.

Locate and proof the signature booklet

  1. Right-click the job icon named XX_Signature_Books in the bottom left corner of Job Manager and choose Open Job Folder in File Browser.
  2. Open the Proofs folder to locate the PDF booklet file.
  3. Open XXJo.TypeBrochur.1A.PDF to check page numbers and back-up sequences.

Delete the signature booklet process template and group

  1. Restore Job Manager.
  2. From the Tools menu, choose Process Template Editor.
  3. In the Imposition Output group, open the process template group XXSignature Booklets.
  4. Right-click your process template XX2UpSignatureBooklets and select Delete. The process template is deleted.
  5. Right-click your refine group XXSignatureBooklets and select Delete. The process template group is deleted.
  6. Close the Process Template Editor.
  7. Close XX_Signature_Books Job Manager.
