Overview

Why you should complete this activity

Signature Booklet (sometimes called digital blueline proofing) is a licensed feature in Prinergy for creating 1-up or 2-up reader-order proofs of the page set positions from an imposition plan layout. You can create a signature booklet simply by starting a process template.
This activity is important because it illustrates how to:

  • Create a signature booklet process template
  • Use the signature booklet process template and locate the reader-order proof

What you'll need

For this activity you need to locate:

  • Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_19_Signature Book

The instructor or coach will provide you with the location of the practice files.
Note: This activity is optional.

The aim of this activity is to demonstrate how to create signature booklets using an imposition proof process template. As this feature is a licensed option, this activity is rated as optional.
Consult the online help for Prinergy Connect to familiarize yourself with the Signature Booklet settings in an imposition proof process template. Encourage the customer to consult this reference material as well, as it will provide additional support to them after the training session is over and they are working on their own.
If you skipped Activity 1, consult the Activity 1 Instructor's Notes for information about best practices for managing activity practice files during a training session. Activity 1 also contains important information related to the Prinergy client and server relationship, which could be helpful to the customer.

What you need to know

A signature booklet proof ideally gives the same results as a reader-order booklet, but the method to create it is different. Prinergy creates the signature booklet by "de-imposing" the imposition plan layout into individual pages, RIPing the pages, and then outputting them in reader-order to a duplexing laser printer or file. This approach lets you identify incorrectly built impositions. If outputting to a PDF raster or vector file, you can choose to output in a multipage format where the complete signature booklet is in one file, or you can output in a single-file format where each 1-up or 2-up page is saved to its own file.

Note: If you are completing this activity on your own or coaching others in your shop, copy the Prinergy Activity Practice Files folder (available on the Kodak Partner Place internet portal at https://partnerplace.kodak.com/) directly to your workstation. For further information about these procedures, see Activity 1.
