Use the following procedure for Prinergy connectivity with a PostScript Print Driver:

Recommended Steps in this specific order:

  • On the Primary and Secondary servers, Download, install and configure the appropriate Windows Postscript Print Driver for the specific Brand/Model of the Print and Windows server version. Note: Prinergy is not compatible with PCL.
  • Configure the Print Driver & the printer sharename.  For example "HP_LJ_M806" for a HP laserjet M806 laser printer. Do not use spaces in the sharename as it will create broken URL paths.
    • Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    • Right click on HP LaserJet M806 and select Printer Properties
    • A dialog box for "HP LaserJet M806 Properties" will pop up.
    • On the Sharing tab > click on button "Share this printer" and type in the share nameHP_LJ_M806
    • Configure the printer settings (paper size, paper tray, orientation, 1 or 2 sided, etc.) which need to be changed in 3 different places (do not leave any as auto detect):
      • Right click on printer > Printer Properties > General tab > Preferences
      • Right click on printer > Printer Properties > Advanced tab > Printing Defaults
      • Right click on printer > Printing Preferences
  • Print a test page from the Print Driver to ensure connectivity from the driver to the printer.
    • Start > Settings > Printers
    • Right click on HP LaserJet M806 and select Properties
    • A dialog box for " HP LaserJet M806 Properties" will pop up.
    • On the General tab > click on button "Print Test Page".
      • If "Print Test Page" fails, it's a Windows Print Driver & HP printer problem.  Contact your IT  department or HP for support with your HP LaserJet M806 in Windows server version.
  • Print a test page from Adobe Acrobat Reader to ensure connectivity from Windows to the print driver.
  • Create a Loose Page Proof Process Template with Output to: PS3 and the Device tab > Device Path to point to the new \\PRINERGYSERVER_HOSTNAME\HP_LJ_M806 share.
  • Print a Loose Page Proof from Prinergy PT.
  • Create & print from an Imposition Proof Process Template.

In Prinergy Loose Page and Imposition Process Template:

Output to: PS3 or EPS Raster

  • PS3 or EPS Raster for Loose Page Output and 1-sided Imposition Output.  PS3 file is vector based and might not flatten and handle overprints properly, EPS Raster is a better choice.
  • EPS Raster for 2-sided Imposition Output.  The front and back of the imposition must be sent together at the same time to be embedded in the EPS Raster file properly.

It's important to do in this order to ensure each step works, and if it doesn't it narrows down the location of the fault.
