Use the following procedure for Prinergy connectivity to a third-party RIP/ Digital Front End

Some well-known third-party color RIPs include the EFI Fiery RIP, CGS Oris RIP, GMG ColorProof RIP, ImpoProof RIP, Black Magic, Harlequin, ColorBurst, Wasatch, Caldera, etc.

On the third-party RIP server:

Prinergy uses the user “araxi” to deliver the EPS Raster/TIFF/PDF files to the shared folder.

  • Create a user "araxi" with the matching password on the Prinergy server.
  • Ensure the shared network folder permissions have been edited to ensure the “araxi” account has FULL CONTROL permissions (read, write, etc.)

To configure connectivity to the third-party printer:

On the Prinergy Primary:

First test network connectivity from the Prinergy Server to the third-party RIP:

  • Start > Run > CMD
  • C:\ ping –a X.X.X.X --> Where X.X.X.X is the IP address of the third-party RIP.  Did you get a reply?  What’s the HOSTNAME of the third-party RIP?
  • C:\ ping <HOSTNAME> --> Reply from same IP above, X.X.X.X?
  • Start > Run > \\<HOSTNAME> or Start > Run \\<IP_address>
  • When prompted for user & password use user “araxi” and the Prinergy server’s matching password.
  • A dialog box should pop up showing the network shared folders on the third-party RIP.  This confirms the connection to the network share using the araxi account.
  • If you get an error it could be the “araxi” account is not setup properly, the share doesn’t have the correct permissions, SMB version correct, etc.

Add File Share:

  • Prinergy Administrator > JTPs tab > Stop the Archive/Retrieve and Purge JTPs.
  • Prinergy Administrator > Tools menu > File Share option.
  • Add button > enter hostname of server & the sharename.  Then select the hostname and share and edit to be an SMB share (defaults to AFP share).
  • Prinergy Administrator > JTPs tab > Start the Archive/Retrieve and Purge JTPs.
  • Repeat for each Hotfolder you've setup on your 3rd party workflow.

Create an Imposition Output Process Template with the appropriate file format, settings, & output file path (example: \\<hostname>\<sharename>) and test connectivity.

Note: Kodak makes no claims regarding connectivity to and/or compatibility with specific third-party proofing devices. The establishment and maintenance of successful connections to third-party proofing devices is the responsibility of the end user, including but not limited to calibration, color management, position to media and layout, and overall output quality. Kodak can provide assistance to establish basic connectivity on a best effort basis for one third-party proofer after installation, but cannot assist with quality, performance, or calibration issues with third-party devices or troubleshooting changes resulting from configuration changes related to issues including, but not limited to, operating system, device driver, or firmware updates.
