You need to trap a file that contains two varnishes; a gloss and matte varnish. Both varnishes don't need to be trapped.
- Create a job
- Copy an input file to the job folder
- Add and refine an input file
- Set varnish color properties for the refine PDF page
- Trap the PDF page using the PDF trap editor
Create a job
- If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
- In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
- Type the job name
XX_Varnishes
(where <XX> represents your initials). - Click Create.
- Minimize the Job Manager window.
Copy an input file to the job folder and add input files to the job
- From your workstation, locate:
Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_39_Trap Varnish / Input File
- Restore Job Manager.
- Open the
Input File
folder. - Drag the
Gloss and Matte.pdf
file to the Job Manager's Input Files area. - In the Add Input Files dialog box that appears, under Options, click Select and select the 1stRef-Normz refine process template.
- Click OK.
Your file is copied to theUserDefinedFolders
folder. - In the Start Process dialog box, click OK to start the Refine process.
Set varnish color properties for the refine PDF page
- In the Pages pane, select Gloss and Matte.p1.pdf.
- From the Process menu, select the process template: Refine > Refine > 2ndRef-MapColors.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click the Color Mapping button.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Dielines.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

Job (XX_Varnishes) - Click OK.
- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
Trapping Information:
Opacity= Dieline
Alternate Color Space = 100% Magenta - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Gloss Varnish.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
Trapping Information:
Opacity= Transparent
Alternate Color Space = 50M, 50Y. - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Matte Varnish.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
Trapping Information:
Opacity= Transparent
Alternate Color Space = 50C, 50K - Click OK.
Note: For the purpose of this activity, it is not necessary to map the Green Background or Orange Type colors. - In the Color Mappingsdialog box, click OK.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
Trap the PDF page using the PDF trap editor
- Open
Gloss and Matte.p1.pdf
in Adobe Acrobat. - In Acrobat, click the Kodak PDF Trap Editor button on the toolbar to start PDF Trap Editor.
- Click the Trap Page icon.
- In the Trap Page section, enter a value of 0.2 pt (.06mm). Click the Trap Page button.
- Select the Hide transparent objects icon.
- Select Highlight traps.
- Confirm that the content under varnishes has been trapped correctly. Inspect the area where the orange type meets the green background.
- Deselect the Hide transparent objects icon.
- To open the Acrobat output preview tool, select View > Tools > Print Production > Output Preview.
- Turn off all colors except Gloss Varnish and Matte Varnish.
- Confirm that Gloss is knocking out of Matte by turning off Gloss Varnish.
- Close the trapped PDF file and save the changes.
- Close XX_Varnishes Job Manager.
