You need to trap a file that contains two varnishes; a gloss and matte varnish. Both varnishes don't need to be trapped.

Create a job

  1. If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
  2. In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
  3. Type the job name XX_Varnishes (where <XX> represents your initials).
  4. Click Create.
  5. Minimize the Job Manager window.

Copy an input file to the job folder and add input files to the job

  1. From your workstation, locate: Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_39_Trap Varnish / Input File
  2. Restore Job Manager.
  3. Open the Input File folder. 
  4. Drag the Gloss and Matte.pdf file to the Job Manager's Input Files area.
  5. In the Add Input Files dialog box that appears, under Options, click Select and select the 1stRef-Normz refine process template.
  6. Click OK.
    Your file is copied to the UserDefinedFolders folder.
  7. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK to start the Refine process.

Set varnish color properties for the refine PDF page

  1. In the Pages pane, select Gloss and Matte.p1.pdf.
  2. From the Process menu, select the process template: Refine > Refine > 2ndRef-MapColors.
  3. In the Start Process dialog box, click the Color Mapping button.
  4. In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Dielines.
  5. In the Color Information section, select Add.
  6. In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:
    SystemCMYK
    Job (XX_Varnishes)
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
    Trapping Information: 
    Opacity= Dieline 
    Alternate Color Space = 100% Magenta
  9. Click OK.
  10. In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Gloss Varnish.
  11. In the Color Information section, select Add.
  12. In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:
    SystemCMYK
    Job (XX_Varnishes)
  13. Click OK.
  14. In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
    Trapping Information: 
    Opacity= Transparent 
    Alternate Color Space = 50M, 50Y.
  15. Click OK.
  16. In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Matte Varnish.
  17. In the Color Information section, select Add.
  18. In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:
    SystemCMYK
    Job (XX_Varnishes)
  19. Click OK.
  20. In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
    Trapping Information: 
    Opacity= Transparent 
    Alternate Color Space = 50C, 50K
  21. Click OK.
    Note: For the purpose of this activity, it is not necessary to map the Green Background or Orange Type colors.
  22. In the Color Mappingsdialog box, click OK.
  23. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.

Trap the PDF page using the PDF trap editor

  1. Open Gloss and Matte.p1.pdf in Adobe Acrobat.
  2. In Acrobat, click the Kodak PDF Trap Editor button on the toolbar to start PDF Trap Editor.
  3. Click the Trap Page icon.
  4. In the Trap Page section, enter a value of 0.2 pt (.06mm). Click the Trap Page button.
  5. Select the Hide transparent objects icon.
  6. Select Highlight traps.
  7. Confirm that the content under varnishes has been trapped correctly. Inspect the area where the orange type meets the green background.
  8. Deselect the Hide transparent objects icon.
  9. To open the Acrobat output preview tool, select View > Tools > Print Production > Output Preview.
  10. Turn off all colors except Gloss Varnish and Matte Varnish.
  11. Confirm that Gloss is knocking out of Matte by turning off Gloss Varnish.
  12. Close the trapped PDF file and save the changes.
  13. Close XX_Varnishes Job Manager.
