Previewing asymmetrical TIFF files

Regular procedures may be used to preview an asymmetrical file, such as by clicking Open  in the toolbar.

The file preview will be normalized to 2400 x 2400 dpi. The image will not be distorted, and all pixels in the high-resolution direction will appear as half-pixel-wide rectangles.

Creating asymmetrical layouts

You cannot specify an asymmetrical resolution when defining a new layout. However, you can use one of the following methods to create an asymmetrical layout:

  • Open an asymmetrical TIFF in Preview mode, and then use the Switch to Layout command to create the layout. The layout that is created automatically uses the file's asymmetrical resolution.
  • Create a layout with the resolution corresponding to the lower dimension of the TIFF file. Then use Auto-arrange or manually drag the asymmetrical TIFF onto the layout. The software automatically changes the layout resolution to correspond with the asymmetrical TIFF file.

You can add more files with the same dimensions to this layout. If a file has a symmetrical resolution, this message appears: You cannot add file <name.tif > because its resolution is different from the resolution of the layout.
