Use the Windows task scheduler and administrator account to enable, check, or edit the KPS Backup task. (Software or system upgrades have been known to reset previously stored settings!)

Requirements:

  • Decide in advance whether this service should be enabled. Consider that storage space requirements may increase and that the task automatically will stop the proofer and restart the Controller software every Sunday at 2 a.m. (default). The length of time required depends on the amount of data to be stored.
  • Ensure that the backup media is ready to receive the data—for example, connect the portable hard drive, or map the desired network drive and check that it is accessible.
  • To ensure the storage location or media does not run out of space, apply a suitable data and file management process. The KPS Backup scheduled task will only add files to the backup location; it does not delete or overwrite any files.

If desired, you can change the default storage location for backup files—<installation drive>:\Program Files\Kodak\Proofer Server <version>\Backup

  1.  Access the Windows Task Scheduler. One way to do this (Windows 10): Click Start > All apps and select Windows Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler.
  2. At the left side of the Task Scheduler, select Task Scheduler Library.
  3. In the upper-middle area, locate and double-click the KPS Backup task name.
  4. In the KPS Backup Properties dialog box, select the General tab.
  5. In the Security Options area, click Change User or Group.
  6. In the Select User or Group dialog box, in the text box under Enter the object name to select, type prooferAdmin, and click Check Names. The text box is updated to display the computer name (as displayed in the From this location box), a back slash, and your login name—<computer name>\prooferAdmin.
  7. If you don't want to change the default schedule or backup location, right-click the KPS Backup task name, and select Enable, and click OK.
  8. (Optional) Make other changes as needed.

    To edit the schedule

    a. Double-click the row that represents the current schedule.

    b. Make your changes.

    To change the storage location

    a. Select the Triggers tab.

    b. Select the Actions tab, and leave this window open.

    c. Use your preferred method to go to the desired backup location.

    d. Copy (Ctrl+C) the backup location path from the Windows Address bar.

    e. Go back to the Actions tab that you left open.

    f. Paste (Ctrl+V) the path into the Add arguments (optional) box, and enclose the path in quotation marks.
Important: Do not change anything else on this tab.

  9. Click OK > OK.
  10. If prompted, provide your Windows administrator password—prooferAdmin. The scheduled task is now enabled.

Note: The Controller software automatically stops when this process starts and then restarts when complete.

Each time a backup finishes, an audible notification indicates that the Controller software has automatically restarted. Each generated backup file name includes the date and time, so that a particular data set can be quickly identified when needed.
