If a full system backup was not created at the time of installation, create the system backup as soon as possible, when the software is running effectively and is populated with the desired resources. In the event of a failure, having a full system backup makes it easy to restore the workstation to this state, with the lowest possible impact on production.

Backup storage requirements

Storage repositories should be clean (virus-free) and protected from accidental overwriting. Ideally, in addition to the system image that you create and store, an additional copy will be stored by the customer in a separate, secure location.

Use either an external hard drive or a network location for the data. If necessary, you can use non-erasable DVDs, however backing up to DVDs can be a very slow process and require multiple discs. The amount of space required varies with each system.

Creating a Windows system image backup file and recovery disc

Immediately after installing and configuring Kodak Proofing Software on a clean system, use the Windows tools for creating a restorable system image backup and a bootable recovery disc.

Requirements: Determine the amount of storage required, and identify a suitable network location or obtain storage media with sufficient capacity.

  1. Ensure that the backup media is ready to receive the data. For example, connect the external drive or map the desired network drive and check that it is accessible.
You can also use DVDs, but this may take considerably more time.
Note: The backed-up data must later be accessible and available for restoring on the upgraded system.
  2. Use your preferred method to access the Windows Backup and Restore or System Image Backup tool.
  3. Click Create a system image.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions as they appear.
If prompted, provide your Windows administrator password or confirm your action.
  5. When finished, clearly label the backup media, and store it in a safe and secure location.
Important: If you backed up to a network location, copy the folder to a different location. Otherwise, it might inadvertently be overwritten by subsequent backups if the same location is used for storing periodic system or data backups.
  6. Return to the settings and click Create a system repair disc
Note: This is an important step for systems that do not ship a Windows operating system installation disc.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions as they appear.
If prompted, provide your Windows administrator password or confirm your action.
