No. In the majority of cases, you will be able to use digital plates with your existing inventory of anilox rolls. However, because digital plates print more cleanly, with less dot gain, you may want to run a banded anilox test to determine if you are able to use a higher line count and/or lower cell volume when running digital plates. In some geographical areas, anilox roll manufacturers offer the use of banded anilox rolls free of charge—it is worth asking your local supplier about this.
Fingerprinting and profiling the press again when implementing digital plates presents a good testing opportunity for further process and quality improvements. Many customers use this as an opportunity to evaluate other aspects of their manufacturing process, such as plate mounting tape and ink.
