Creating a Windows system image backup file and recovery disc for Dell 7040 Controller

  1. Ensure that the backup media is ready to receive the data. For example, connect the external drive or map the desired network drive and check that it is accessible.
You can also use DVDs, but this may take considerably more time.
Note: The backed-up data must later be accessible and available for restoring on the upgraded system.
  2. Use your preferred method to access the Windows Backup and Restore or System Image Backup tool.
  3. Click Create a system image.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions as they appear.
If prompted, provide your Windows administrator password or confirm your action.
  5. When finished, clearly label the backup media, and store it in a safe and secure location.
Important: If you backed up to a network location, copy the folder to a different location. Otherwise, it might inadvertently be overwritten by subsequent backups if the same location is used for storing periodic system or data backups.
  6. Return to the settings and click Create a system repair disc
