You need to set different opacities for inks prior to trapping and then view the results.
- Create a job
- Copy an input file to the job folder
- Add and refine the input file
- Color map the refined PDF page
- Trap the PDF page using the Kodak PDF trap editor
Create a job
Note: Your instructor, service representative, or your system administrator will supply a user name and password, and tell you which server and Prinergy volume to use.
- If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
- In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
- Type the job name
XX_Set_Opacities
(where <XX> represents your initials). - Click Create.
- Minimize the Job Manager window.
Copy an input file to the job folder and add input files to the job
- From your workstation, locate:
Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_38_Set Trap Opacities / Input File
- Restore Job Manager.
- Open the
Input File
folder. - Drag the
CartonGrn.pdf
file to the Job Manager's Input Files area. - In the Add Input Files dialog box that appears, under Options, click Select and select the 1stRef-Normz refine process template.
- Click OK.
Your file is copied to theUserDefinedFolders
folder. - In the Start Process dialog box, click OK to start the Refine process
Color map the refined PDF page
- In the Pages pane, right-click
CartonGrn.p1.pdf
and select the process template: Refine > Refine > Refine > 2ndRef-MapColors. - In the Start Process dialog box, click the Color Mapping button.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Dieline.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

Job (XX_Set_Opacities) - Click OK.
- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
Trapping Information:
Opacity= Dieline
Alternate Color Space = 100% Magenta - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select PANTONE 8040 C.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
Trapping Information:
Opacity= Opaque
Alternate Color Space = 15Y, 40K - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select PANTONE 8722 C.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:
SystemCMYK
Job (XX_Set_Opacities) - Click OK.
- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following:
Trapping Information:
Opacity= Opaque
Alternate Color Space = 95C, 90Y, 15K - Click OK.
- Change the Print Order so that PANTONE 8040 C is the last color applied.
Note: This will ensure that the trap line between silver and green is applied in the correct direction. - In the Color Mappings dialog box, click OK.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
Trap the PDF page using the Kodak PDF trap editor
- Open the
CartonGrn.p1.pdf
file in Adobe Acrobat. - Click the Kodak PDF Trap Editor button on the toolbar to start PDF Trap Editor.
- Click the Trap Page icon.
- In the Trap Page section, enter a value of 0.25 pt (.0875mm). Click the Trap Page button.
- Select Highlight Traps icon to view the elements that have been trapped.
- Close the trapped PDF file and save the changes.
- Close XX_Set_Opacities Job Manager.
