You want to customize the color recipes used in an input file. Alternate color definition recipes improve accuracy and consistency by replacing color definitions as defined in the input file with color recipes that are specific to the final printing conditions—settings for the device, media, inks, and so on.

The following procedures describe how to customize color recipes to meet the output needs for the final printing condition—device, media, inks, and so on.

You can define color recipes in Color Editor, which requires creating a new color and managing how it is utilized as part of the job or as part of the entire system.

For the purposes of this activity, you will temporarily alter the color recipes by editing the color recipes during the refine process.

Revert PDF pages to their original color state

  1. In the Input Files pane, right-click Print Buyers Guide.pdf , and choose the process template: Refine > Refine > 1stRef-Normz
  2. In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
  3. View the Page Colors column in Job Manager. The PDF pages contain all original spot color information again.

Based on your shop's preferences, you may want to specify an exact CMYK recipe that matches a PANTONE color. In this scenario, the PANTONE conversion standards being used in your shop are based on the Process2000 factory library.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Color Editor.
  2. In the Color Libraries column, In the Selected Libraries list, select the PANTONE+ V3 Solid Coated library.
  3. In the Colors column, locate the following PANTONE colors, and view the Lab recipe for each.
Note that PANTONE now only supplies Kodak with Lab libraries, and Lab color recipes are converted to CMYK using the ICC profile entered as the Primary Color Output. If you change the ICC profile, the resulting CMYK colors will change.  In order to achieve the closest possible colormatch to PANTONE's specifications, you should use an ICC profile that most closely matches your target print condition. By default, Prinergy uses the latest GRACoL profile for sheetfed offset on coated stock. Change this profile if your print condition is different.
    • PANTONE 355 C = L 52.280, a -66.880, b 33.790
    • PANTONE 703 C = L 45.370, a -53.380, b 19.220
Note: If the color values don't appear on the right-hand side of the window, select the PANTONE color listed above PANTONE 355 C, and then re-select PANTONE 355 C.
  4. Close Color Editor.
