Why you should complete this activity
Automated Page Assignment (APA) is a licensed feature that automatically assigns processed pages to page set positions associated to an imposition plan.
This activity is important because it illustrates how to:
- Create an APA rule
- Use the APA rule to automate the imposition process
What you'll need
For this activity you need to locate:
Prinergy Activity Practice Files /Act_29_APA
The instructor or coach will provide you with the location of the practice files.
Note: If you are completing this activity on your own or coaching others in your shop, copy the Prinergy Activity Practice Files folder (available on the Kodak Partner Place internet portal at https://partnerplace.kodak.com/) directly to your workstation. The aim of this activity is to introduce the concept of automated page layout to an imposition plan. Automated Page Assignment can assist the customer with repetitive tasks that they handle on a daily basis.
Consult with the customer to ensure that this activity brings value to their learning experience. Optionally, use this activity to demonstrate the concept of APA, and then use the customer's files as a hands-on approach to using the feature. Be certain to clarify these expectations with the customer at the beginning of this activity.
If you skipped Activity 1, consult the Activity 1 Instructor's Notes for information about best practices for managing activity practice files during a training session. Activity 1 also contains important information related to the Prinergy client and server relationship, which could be helpful to the customer.
What you need to know
APA uses a file (with the extension apa) to map the page positions of an imposition plan to the file names of the pages that will be assigned to those positions.
When you import an imposition plan into a job, Prinergy compares the file names of the pages in the APA file to the file names of actual processed pages in the job. If the file names match, Prinergy automatically assigns the pages to the correct page positions of the imposition plan.
After using APA, if you manually assign and unassign pages, the APA file is not updated with your changes.
