Overview

Why you should complete this activity

This activity introduces the final output process template, and demonstrate how the template is built and used.
This activity is important because it illustrates how to:

  • Create and use a customized final output process template—Scenario 1
  • Use Plate Remake—Scenario 2

What you'll need

For this activity you need to locate:

  • Prinergy Activity Practice Files /Act_21_Final Output PT

The instructor or coach will provide you with the location of the practice files.
Note: This activity is recommended.
The aim of this activity is to:

  • Demonstrate how to use the Process Template Editor to create a customized final output process template
  • Describe the various selections available as part of the final output process template
  • Demonstrate the Plate Remake feature included in Prinergy version 5.1

As the practice of creating process templates is used commonly throughout print shops, this activity is rated as recommended.
Because this activity can't realistically achieve output to a final output device, the imposition will be output as TIFF preview files. Be sure to highlight that this format is being used primarily for demonstration purposes. Highlight that the final output process will be realistically achieved once the Prinergy system is installed at the customer site during Start Up Assistance.
Consult the online help for Prinergy Connect to familiarize yourself with the various available settings in a final output process template. Encourage the customer to consult this reference material as well, as it will provide additional support to them after the training session is over and they are working on their own.

If you skipped Activity 1, consult the Activity 1 Instructor's Notes for information about best practices for managing activity practice files during a training session. Activity 1 also contains important information related to the Prinergy client and server relationship, which could be helpful to the customer.

What you need to know

Create and use a customized final output process template

Note: As this activity won't be able to send PDF files to an actual output device, you will generate a TIFF output file format and preview the files using preview software.

The final output process template contains several sections. Each section defines a subprocess of the proofing process.

At the top of the dialog box is the Output To list. You use this list to select the file format suitable for the output device you select in the Device section. The file format selection determines the availability of some options in the process template. For this reason, you should select an output format first.
This process template contains these sections:

Copydot
Determines how to handle copydot files. When you enable the Copydot section, the system automatically converts copydot images for optimal quality on your output device during output. Only disable the Copydot section for one or more of the following reasons:

  • Your pages lack copydot images.
  • You are outputting at your target device resolution.
  • The copydot JTP on final output allows you to apply Harmony curves on copydot data.

ColorConvert
Provides information necessary to transform color data from a PDF file to the final output color space, (for example, refined file differs from the color space of the press).

Layout
Determines how to place the imposition on the output media.

Render
Determines the output resolution and how to handle spot colors.

Calibration & screening
Provides calibration and screening file information.

PrintLink
Determines settings for generating PPF (Print Production Format) files.

Processed file options
Identifies the file naming parameters. Not applicable for Direct or Prinergy Workflow devices.

File Format
Identifies the format and compression settings of the output files. Not applicable for Direct or Prinergy Workflow devices.

Device
Identifies the output device.

Marks
Determines how marks are handled.

Note: If you are completing this activity on your own or coaching others in your shop, copy the Prinergy Activity Practice Files folder (available on the Kodak Partner Place internet portal at https://partnerplace.kodak.com/) directly to your workstation. For further information about these procedures, see Activity 1.
