Prior to Prinergy Workflow 8.2, direct-to-device (aka GDAPI, or “direct connectivity”) was the sole method of generating output while reporting output device and imaging process status directly back to Prinergy Workflow from Kodak Computer-To-Plate devices. Starting with Prinergy Workflow 8.2, TIFF Direct connectivity (JDF bi-directional connectivity) is available as an alternative to direct-to-device connectivity. For more information about TIFF Direct, see Configuring plating devices using TIFF Direct connectivity.

Configure plating devices with direct to device connections to communicate with Kodak CTP devices via GDAPI connectivity.

Ensure that:

  • The plating device is connected to a Prinergy server. For instructions, see the server documentation.
  • The plating device's control software is installed on the Prinergy server (or Renderstation) that is connected to the output device. For instructions, see the server documentation or contact your service representative.
  • The HiRes Render JTP has been added to the Prinergy server that is connected to the plating device.
  • The ColorFlow software is installed on the appropriate Prinergy servers. Your service representative does this as part of the Prinergy installation.
  • If your Prinergy server is on a network that uses a proxy server, you must bypass the proxy server in order to connect devices to Prinergy.
    To do so, go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings, and select the the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box.
    Note: You can also access this check box from the Tools menu in your Internet Explorer browser (Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings).
  1. If, in Preps, you output impositions to the plate size (as opposed to the press sheet size), then you'll need to make the plate definitions available to your Mac. Create a shared folder to store the PPD files and PPX files that describe the plate types available to each output device.
    1. On the desktop, right-click My Computer and select Manage.
    2. In the Computer Management window, in the left pane, double-click Shared Folders to expand the tree.
    3. Right-click Shares and select New File Share.
    4. In the Create Shared Folder dialog box, click the Browse button, and then select the folder that you want to share.
      This share must reside on an NTFS volume, or an error message will appear when you create the share.
    5. In the Accessible from the following clients box, select the Microsoft Windows check box.
    6. In the Share name box, type a name for the share, such as Prinergy PPDs.
    7. Click Next, click Finish, and click No to indicate that you do not want to create another share.
    8. Close the Computer Management window.
  2. In the device control software:
    1. Define the plate types to use with the Prinergy system.
      See the documentation for the device control software.
    2. Generate a PPD file and save it to the PPD folder on the Prinergy server.
      If you are using the Kodak Print Console software, generate the PPD file in Landscape mode.

  3. In your imposition software, add the output device and set the device configuration, if necessary.
    See the documentation for the imposition software.
  4. Copy the PPD files to the computer where you've installed the imposition software:
    1. On the computer with the imposition software, mount the PPD folder on the Prinergy primary server.
    2. Copy the PPD and PPX files from Prinergy PPD folder to the imposition software PPD folder.
  5. In Prinergy Administrator, add a GDAPI JTP (output JTP of type Print Console or Expose). For Host server, use the JTP on the renderstation that is physically connected to the device via SCSI or Ethernet cable. Give the JTP a descriptive name—for example, Trendsetter3.
  6. Configure a final output process template for use with Print Console or Xpo:
    1. In Workshop, from the Tools menu, select Process Template Editor.
    2. In the Process Template Editor, double-click the final output process template you want to edit or create a new final output process template.
    3. In the Output To list box, select the name of the GDAPI Print Console JTP that you created in the Output JTP dialog box (see step 5).
    4. In the Layout section of the process template, from the Name list, select a fixed media size (configured in Print Console—see step 1).
      • If your impositions from Preps are imposed to the press sheet size, select Center along width and Shift along height, and enter the distance from the plate to the press sheet edge for that press.
      • If your impositions from Preps are imposed to the plate size, there's nothing more to do in this step.
    5. If using ColorFlow Color Relationship Management, in the ColorFlow Color Relationship Management section of the process template, select the correct snapshot, color setup and other appropriate settings for ColorFlow.
    6. In the Render section of the process template, the Device Resolutions box shows the available device resolutions that device control software sends to Prinergy. Select the appropriate one—for example, 2400x2400 dpi.
    7. In the Calibration & Screening section of the process template:
      1. In the Curve Source setting, select ColorFlow Approved SnapshotColorFlow Current State or Harmony. (If ColorFlow Color Relationship Management is being used, these choices will not be available and the Print Curve and Plate Curve boxes will display ColorFlow Value.
      2. In the Print Curve and Plate Curve boxes, select the calibration curve to use.
      3. In the Screen Ruling box, select the screen ruling to use.
    8. From the File menu, select Save to save your settings for the final output process template. Give the process template a unique descriptive name.
    9. Repeat steps 2 to 6 for every plate size you want to output to, selecting the appropriate plate size from the Name box in the Layout section.
  7. Test each output to ensure it is working correctly by sending an imposition to it. For more information on importing an imposition, see the Prinergy Workshop User Guide.
