When any patterns appear in screens on imaged or processed digital flexo plates, contact a Kodak service representative to have a hardware engineer check the imaging setup of the device. The most important thing to check is the debris removal system, because imaging artifacts are commonly created when carbon debris trails build up between laser swaths during mask ablation. These debris trails can interfere with halftone screens to create visible artifacts.
If patterns persist after debris removal and other imaging characteristics are checked and optimized, they could be the result of interference between the normal head signature and a particular frequency and angle combination of halftone dots. The recommended action is to perform a series of bracketed exposure tests to determine the optimum angles and frequencies. For a bracketing exposures procedure, see Configuring screen sets.
