When you image plates on a ThermoFlex, the final high-resolution screened data must be modified to compensate for limitations of flexo media and to compensate for dot gain that occurs on press.
Flexo media has difficulty forming very small halftone dots, and, even if they do form, presses may have problems printing small highlight dots. To compensate for these problems, output is generally corrected to eliminate the small dots. This is accomplished by applying a special compensation curve known as a bump curve, when the file is output.
Additionally, you must adjust dot gain on press to achieve a desired appearance and maintain grey balance. To do this, you must create and apply a tone reproduction curve (TRC).
This section describes the creation of bump curves and TRCs, and provides best practices for optimizing your use of these curves in Prinergy.
