DigiCap was developed to improve the reproduction of solid areas and shadows. Whether DigiCap can improve the print quality of solid areas depends on many variables, including:
- Type of substrate
- Type of ink
- Type of polyester plate mounting tape
- Plate durometer
- Use of combination line and contone plates
All of these factors have a large influence on the quality with which solids will print. For example, the "sticky back" or mounting tape used on a plate will have a greater effect on solids than DigiCap. Some substrates and processes result in dense, smooth-looking solids. In these cases, DigiCap will not improve the appearance.
In situations like poly print for flexible packaging, that often have patterned-looking solids, using DigiCap can probably improve visual appearance and may also result in higher densities.
