Typically, only one main layer can be displayed at one time. However, you can display two main layers at the same time by splitting the Adobe Acrobat window into two screens.

  1. From the Window menu, select Split.
  2. Click a screen to activate it, and then on the Layers tab, select the layer that you want to display in the screen.

The advantage of this is that you can switch different layers and sublayers on and off in each screen. For example, you might want to turn on the Output layer in one screen and the Discarded layer in the other screen.

 

Then when you select an object in the Output layer and discard it, you can immediately view the results in the Discarded layer without having to switch any layers on or off. The figure above shows an object selected in the Output layer in the upper screen. The figure below shows the object discarded to the Discarded layer in the lower screen, while also showing an empty space in the upper screen where the discarded object used to be.
