For detailed information about trapping double hits of spot color, see Setting an ink to treat as black.
At the end of this exercise, you should be able to use the Treat As Black ink option to apply stayaway traps for graphics that have double hits of spot color.
Note: We recommend that you print this procedure, and follow the steps using the opened drawing file:

  1. Open DoubleHit.pdf.
This is a logo that has been colored 40 percent Pantone Cyan spot color, and then duplicated and positioned exactly on top of the original. The duplicate has its color changed to be 100 percent Pantone Cyan 2nd Hit spot color, and set to overprint.
  2. Start PDF Trap Editor.
  3. Draw a marquee to select the entire logo.
What do you see in the Properties Editor?
The different layers of cyan are represented by icons that, when selected, show 40 percent and 100 percent cyan for the first and second hits of color.
  4. On the Properties Editor toolbar, click the Trap Page button.
  5. Select the Inks dialog box.
  6. Find the Pantone Cyan 2nd Hit colorant, and select the Treat as Black check box.
  7. Click Trap page.
PDF Trap Editor traps the page, creating a stayaway trap for the double-hit spot color logo.
  8. Select Highlight Traps to see the stayaway traps.
  9. Close DoubleHit.pdf without saving.
