Prinergy provides very precise control over the use of document screening. The PostScript specification states that document screening must specify screen angle, dot shape, and line frequency. This means that embedded document screening commands will specify all three attributes, but there are cases where this can be done incorrectly.

For example, older versions of FreeHand software would specify a round dot that was encoded as a normal dot. Prinergy would interpret this normal dot as a Euclidean or round-square-round dot. A Euclidean dot is not generally considered suitable for flexo, but the process of embedding screen angles for automated workflows also automatically embedded the incorrect dot shape, and there was no workaround within the FreeHand software, making document screening unusable in Prinergy.

Additionally, ArtPro software users often want to specify Elliptical dots for use in Prinergy, but rather than embedding a recognizable dot function call, the ArtPro software can embed an actual spot function. In this case, enabling document screening in Prinergy would result in a pseudo-elliptical dot, unsuitable for printing, rather than the desired Prinergy Elliptical dot.

Prinergy can solve these problems by overriding specific document screening attributes and honoring others. For example, Prinergy can be configured to honor only the embedded screen angle and to override dot shape and frequency.

Honoring doc screens for angle, override dot shape, and frequency

The ability to override individual document screening attributes provides flexibility.
