Install the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager software, which Xerox created to act as a JDF device for the DocuSP and other digital front ends. The Xerox DocuSP front end does not accept JDF messages directly.
The Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager software takes JDF files from the Prinergy software and translates them into instructions that can be understood by the bulk of the Xerox production fleet. To perform this function, Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager is installed on the Prinergy primary server and runs in the background to convert the files to a JDF format that is specific to Xerox.

  • Insert the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager CD into the CD-ROM drive on the Prinergy primary or secondary server, and follow the prompts.
If the installer does not start automatically, locate the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager CD and manually start the installer.

Register the printers

Use the Printer Registration utility to define the printers and queues that are available in the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager software.
Run the Printer Registration utility before running Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager for the first time. If you don't do this, printers and queues will not be available in the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager software.

  1. Start the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager software.
    • In Windows, from the Start menu, select Programs > Xerox Applications > FreeFlow Print Manager Tool Suite > Printer Registration.
    • In the Mac OS, choose Applications > XPPS > Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager Tool Suite > Printer Registration.
  2. Set up the printers and queues.
  3. Save the printer discovery file. (The default name is printer.disc.)
You can save the printer discovery file anywhere on the server or network. You may want to save it in a shared location such as the Xerox FreeFlow Print Manager application folder. (For Windows, select Programs > Xerox Applications. For the Mac OS, select Applications > XPPS).
  4. Select the printer discovery file as the default.
  5. Click Exit.
