Although the correct term is minimum mask exposure value, it is common practice in digital flexo workflow to refer to this value as minimum dot value.

Kodak provides the test file StepWedge_v3b.pdf for use in general exposure testing. StepWedge_v3b.pdf is a CMYK file, but minimum dot values are normally determined by running only one color, such as black. The StepWedge_v3b.pdf test file contains tone details, gradients, and images that can be used for a range of purposes. A media representative may want to use their own target for simple minimum dot value determination. When outputting the test plates, ensure that there is nothing selected in either the Plate Calibration or Print Calibration menus. If no curves are selected, output will be linear, which is necessary for making test plates.
