Page tree

The PDF Preflight section of a refine process template defines the profile used to check for errors and defines how to handle those errors.

Important: Enabling this section and selecting Advanced Preflight, disables the following options in other sections of the refine process template because the preflight profile is controlling these aspects:

  • In the Generate list, the PDF/X-1a:2001 option is unavailable
  • In the Normalize section, Color Space Control and CEPS Detector areas are unavailable
  • In the Optimize section, all areas are unavailable

In the Advanced Preflight profile, the Font and OPI controls do not operate, even though they are available. Prinergy will, however, report missing fonts in a preflight report regardless of the profile setting.

General Preflight Settings

Preflight Handling

Select to determine how Prinergy responds to PDF Preflight errors in a page.
Warnings: Ignore—Prinergy completes processing.
Warnings: Warn—PDF Preflight warns you of warnings. Warning messages appear in the Active Processes pane in Job Manager and in the History view.
Warnings: Fail—PDF Preflight places an 'X' across all pages with warnings. The preflight process does not stop at the first warning.
Errors: Ignore—Prinergy completes processing.
Errors: Warn—PDF Preflight warns you of errors. Warning messages appear in the Active Processes pane in Job Manager and in the History view.
Errors: Fail—PDF Preflight places an 'X' across all pages with errors. The preflight process does not stop at the first error.
Note: You can select only an equal or more severe behavior for errors as for warnings. For example, if you select Warn for Warnings, then the choices for Errors are reduced to only Warn or Fail.
Fixed Errors: Ignore—Prinergy completes processing.
Fixed Errors: Warn—PDF Preflight notifies you of fixed errors. Warning messages appear in the Active Processes pane in Job Manager and in the History view.
Fixed Errors: Fail—PDF Preflight places an 'X' across all pages with fixed errors. The preflight process does not stop at the first fixed error.

Notes:

    • When using Advanced Preflight or Preflight+, you can stop the generation of failed subpages when you set up your preflight profile to Fail on Errors. In the refine process template, Normalize section, select the Suppress Generation of Failed Subpages check box.
    • When using Preflight+, an 'X' is never drawn.
    • When using Preflight+, the Fixed Errors controls are not supported.

Preflight+

JTP

Select the job ticket processor (JTP) that will run the preflight process.

Run Preflight+ on original files

Run the preflight process before the normalize process is performed, so that the preflight process is performed on the original input files, before any processes are run by Prinergy.

Select a profile to run

Select the Preflight+ profile according to which the preflight process will be run. Then select one of the following options:

    • Analyze—to run the inspection and identify any problems without fixing the problems
    • Analyze and Fix—to run the inspection, identify any problems and fix them.

Note: If you select this option but the profile you selected above is set to only analyze, Prinergy will analyze but not fix any problems.

Save report as

Select the file type of the generated report. Select any or all of the options: PDF, XML, and TEXT.

If you select PDF, you can decide what the generated PDF report contains by selecting one or more of the following additional options:

    • Include overview—save a PDF report that contains the overview (a summary of the problems found during the preflight process)
    • Include details—save a PDF report that contains the details per page (each page with its preflight comments), that is, a copy of the input PDF file with comment annotations to problem elements
    • Keep main report in addition to reports per page—when you request a PDF Preflight+ report of an input file, the system keeps a copy of the full report and also page-specific reports. Each of these reports contains copies of the actual PDF pages you refined.
For example, if you refine a 1 MB file, an additional 2 MB is added to the job after you request a PDF Preflight+ report. Clear this check box if you want to delete the full report from the Prinergy server.
Note: If you clear this option but select the Copy reports to a remote location check box, the full report will be copied to the defined remote location before it is deleted from the Prinergy server.

Note: You can access the PDF reports from within Workshop. To view an XML or text report, browse to the actual file of the report and double-click it. These reports are stored in the PreflightPlusReport folder of your jobs system folder.

Run Preflight+ on normalized files

Run the preflight process after the normalize and optimize processes are completed.

Select a profile to run

Select the Preflight+ profile according to which the preflight process will be run. Then select one of the following options:

    • Analyze—to run the inspection and identify any problems without fixing the problems
    • Analyze and Fix—to run the inspection, identify any problems and fix them.

Note: If you select the Analyze option but the profile you selected has checks and fixes, Prinergy will analyze but not fix any problems.

Save report as

Select the file type of the generated report. Select any or all of the options: PDF, XML, and TEXT.

If you select PDF, you can decide what the generated PDF report contains by selecting one or both of the following additional options:

    • Include overview—save PDF reports per page that contain the overview (a summary of the problems found during the preflight process)
    • Include details—save PDF reports per page that contain the page's details (each page with its preflight comments), that is, a copy of the input PDF file with comment annotations to problem elements

Note: You can access the PDF reports from within Workshop. To view an XML or text report, browse to the actual file of the report and double-click it. These reports are stored in the PreflightPlusReport folder of your jobs system folder.

Copy reports to a remote location

Select this check box if you want to copy each report (including the full PDF report of a Preflight+ process on input files) to a different location than the default location (path) of preflight reports, then click Browse and navigate to the desired location.
