In this section you will learn how to use the PRINERGY Portal: Ink Analytics Service: Ink Estimator: Per Page

Use PRINERGY Portal Ink Estimator to estimate ink requirements based on individual pages. (For example: A job has been received but the running layout of the job hasn't been determined yet.)

Choose different combinations of Print Conditions, substrates or inks to create new scenarios and compare results.

How to Use Ink Analytics: Per Page Estimator:

In order to use Per Page Estimation, you must first output Loose Page VPS or TIFF proofs in PRINERGY. Then you can use the output TIFFs to calculate ink requirements for the job.

Or you can use the Nominal Job feature to estimate based on an "idealized" job with representative ink coverage, or a previous job

  • In PRINERGY Portal: Ink Analytics: Ink Estimator, select the Per Page Estimation tab.
  • From the Jobs pane:
    1. Find the source PRINERGY Server
    2. You can use the From: / To: fields to narrow a date range
    3. Select a current job you want to work with, or select a Nominal Job
  • From the Pages (Artwork) pane:
    1. Select the pages (artwork) you want to estimate.
    2. If required, select pages (artwork) from multiple jobs.
    3. Define the #-up for each page (artwork) selection.
NOTE: #-up equals the number of repeats for a page or artwork on the substrate defined in the Print Condition
  • Complete the following:
    1. Print Condition - this will determine the Press, Ink, Substrate and more.
    2. Number of Copies - total expected or sellable product
    3. Make-ready Waste - amount of substrate needed to ensure that the Press is "up to color"
    4. Product Type - (optional) Defining this field could be useful in future historical comparisons based on product types or categories
    5. Press Due Date
  • Click on Estimate

Example: Ink Estimator showing Per Page Estimation panel, with multiple-up pages specified

In this instance, the "ECM-10730" job on PRINERGY Server "84TESTING" has been selected, and contains two pages (artworks). Each page has been defined to have print repeats of 2 and 4 respectively, as shown within the RED outlined area.

Example: Per Page Estimation showing the total ink amounts and costs of all artworks/pages in the virtual layout.

When estimating ink requirements for pages/artworks, Ink Analytics totals the amounts of all pages/artworks on the virtual layout, providing total ink weights and costs. When you press the Estimate button, the total area coverage of each separation is multiplied by the number of "ups", to give the total coverage amounts of each color in the virtual layout.

  • To Re-estimate with a different Print Condition, numbers up on the virtual layout, or number of Copies, press Re-Estimate to return to the Estimate specifications panel.
  • To save the estimate, click Approve and the estimate is stored and can be viewed in Ink Usage (Loose Page) reports.

NOTE: When comparing Ink Estimations that have been generated on a Per Page against a Per Surface there will be differences. This is due to the nature of the process. Per Page estimations will often be rendered at a lower resolution and different screening. Per Surface (Imposition/Layout) estimations will consider a composition of pages (artworks), and structure associated with Press marks (color bars, etc.). The Actual Ink Usage feature takes into account the values associated with a Per Surface and will provide better estimations for Per Page estimation.
