Use the Spot Colors tab of the Process Settings dialog box to specify how the proofer processes spot colors. The available options are set to default values based on which Processor Presets you assigned to the hot folder.

Notes:

Because some spot colors are outside the gamut of certain output devices, you need to be aware of how the proofer is configured to output these colors.

  • If you chose the CMYK Press is Final Output setting to match a CMYK press, the system automatically selects Map All Spot Colors to Process in the Handling list. The proofer space, however, is compressed to simulation space based on the settings on the ICC Settings tab.
  • If you chose the CMYK with Spots Press is Final Output setting to match a CMYK press that has separate spot color units, the system automatically selects Don't Map Spot Colors in the Handling list. The spot colors are compressed to fit the proofer space, and process colors are compressed to fit the simulation space, as defined on the ICC Settings tab.

Note:

Keep in mind that if your spot colors are defined in CMYK values rather than L*a*b* values, you must preserve the spot color manually.

  • If you chose the Remove Spots from Final Output setting—for example, because the spot colors are die lines—the system automatically selects Don't Output in the Handling list. The spot colors do not output on the proof, but all other colors are compressed to fit the press space, as defined on the ICC Settings tab.
  • If you chose the Proofer is Final Output setting, the system automatically selects Do Not Map Spots in the Handling list, but these colors are mapped to the proofer space, which is usually much larger than the press space.

Note: The Selective Map to Process feature allows you to manually change the handling of individual separations within selected proofs.

Enhance spot tint colors

The Enhance Spot Tint Colors option (for Matchprint Inkjet) allows more accurate simulation of spot color tints printed on press. It also lets you simulate the highlight minimum dot seen in flexographic printing. Highlight dot simulation for process colors requires a special DeviceLink.

The Enhance Spot Tint Colors option becomes available when you set the following options on the Spot Colors tab:

  • In the Handling list, select Don't map spots .
  • Select the Look up in spot color database check box.
  • Select a User Library and/or Factory Library.
