Always perform this procedure when setting up a new proofer, to ensure support for two-sided and single-side printing.

Requirements:

  • Epson Stylus Pro printer model whose firmware supports automatic reading of the sheet position—Epson 7900/9900, 7890/9890, 7880/9880,7800/9800, 7700/9700
  • The latest Epson firmware installed on the printer—see the applicable topic.

Enable the Epson firmware’s custom two-sided feature in all new proofers—this is required if proofing files will be submitted using a double-sided layouts, for correctly-aligned backups without skew. This feature automatically adjusts the image on each side based on the sheet position, horizontally centering and rotating each image to match the angle of the sheet, so that the image edges are aligned and positioned parallel to the sheet’s leading edge.

  1. Turn off the Epson Stylus Pro printer.
  2. On the front panel, press and hold down both the Power and Pause buttons, and then release the Power button while continuing to hold down the Pause button until Maintenance Mode appears in the LCD display.
Note: For older printers, you may need to hold down both the Power and Pause buttons until Maintenance Mode appears in the LCD display.
  3. Press the up or down arrow buttons on the printer's front panel until Custom appears on the LCD display.
  4. Press the Menu or right-arrow button to display the options.
  5. Use the arrow buttons on the front panel to locate and select the value 2.
Kodak Proofing Software can then obtain the sheet-position information that is required for double-sided proofing, as well as for printing single-side proofs. (The value 0 sets the position information for single-side proofs only.)
  6. On the front panel display, press the Enter button to store the setting, and press the left arrow button until the main menu appears on the display.
  7. Restart the printer. (Turn it off and then on again.)

This feature is now available via network connectivity only.

Notes:

  • This procedure is typically not needed again. However, if a service technician replaces the main board to resolve a device failure, you may need to repeat this procedure.
  • For more information about double-sided proofing, including front-to-back and horizontal alignment, see the applicable Kodak Proofing Software user documentation (help) topics.
