Printers with the inline spectrophotometer will use the inline spectrophotometer to measure color bars, and the printers measure them after printing the proof. When you place the color bar at the top of a proof or sheet, the device must rewind the media before it can measure the color bar. To avoid rewinding the media before measuring, it is recommended that you place color bars at the bottom of the sheet. See the additional recommendations for scatter and grid layouts for best use of the inline spectrophotometer.

Recommendations for scatter layouts

For scatter layouts, it is recommended that you:

  • Use one color bar per sheet. Do not use color bars per proof.
  • Place the color bar at the bottom of the sheet.

Recommendations for grid layouts

For grid layouts that use a color bar per proof, it is recommended that you:

  • Place as many proofs as you like across the sheet but place only 1 proof down. That is, in the Layout Editor in the Grid Size Down box, specify no more than 1.
  • In the Mark Positions dialog box, place the color bar at the bottom of the sheet.
  • In the Mark Positions dialog box, in the Marks Relative to list, select Cell. The software places the color bar at the bottom of each cell in the grid, even if the page is rotated inside the cell.
