You can set up a hot folder or virtual printer that simulates the highlight dots that are seen in flexographic printing.
Requirements:

  • Create a DeviceLink to simulate the highlight dot for process colors. Spot colors are handled differently; the process is described later in this topic.
  • Locate the ICC profile that your shop uses to separate RGB images into CMYK color space, and import the ICC profile into Proofer Administrator. You will select this profile when you create a hot folder or virtual printer.
  • Create a spot tint library for each spot color library that you want to use, if you are using this method.

  1. In Proofer Viewer, from the Configure menu, select Hot Folders or Virtual Printers > New.
  2. In the Setup File Input dialog box, the following options require special attention for this feature. Options unaffected by this feature are not mentioned and can be set as needed:
    1. In the Media Configuration list, select the media configuration that you used to create the DeviceLink.
    2. In the Halftone Handling list, select NoneScreened input files, Descreen, or Screened input files, Resample. (The other options are not supported for this feature.)
    3. Click Next.
  3. On the Spot Colors tab, set the following options:
    1. In the Handling list, select Don't map spots. In the Handling list, select Map Spots to Process Enable Spot Tint.
    2. Select Look Up in Spot Color Database.
    3. In the User Library list, select a custom color library if you have created and tested one. Otherwise, select None.
    4. In the Factory Library list, select a color library that is appropriate for the proofer and media that you are using.
    5. Select the Enhance Spot Tint Color check box.
  4. On the Spot Colors tab, perform one of the following actions:

    ToDo this

    Use a spot tint library

    1. Select the Use Spot Tint Library check box.
    2. In the Spot Tint Library list, select a spot tint library. The list displays only enabled spot tint libraries for the selected factory or user library.

    Calculate spot tint colors

    1. Select the Calculate All Spot Tint Colors check box.
    2. In the Simulate list, specify whether to simulate a Highlight Bump, Highlight Minimum dot, or No Highlight Adjustment.
    3. Complete the remaining options. Options are available based on your selection in the Simulate list.
  5. On the ICC Settings tab, in the Simulation Color Space area, click the Advanced button.
  6. In the Simulation Color Space Advanced dialog box, set the following options:
    1. In the ICC Handling list, select DeviceLink.
    2. In the Simulation ICC Profile list, select the ICC profile that you want to use to separate RBG images or to convert CMYK images into the CMYK Simulation color space.
    3. In the Simulation DeviceLink list, select the DeviceLink profile that you created using Kodak Proofing Software.
    4. Click OK.
  7. If you selected a CMYK user or factory spot color library on the Spot Colors tab, ensure that the correct proofer profile is selected on the ICC Settings tab, in the Proofer Color Space area.
The selected proofer profile should be the same profile that was used to create the spot tint library for the selected CMYK spot color library. This ensures that the correct white point is used when the hot folder or virtual printer uses the absolute rendering intent.
  8. Set the remaining options as desired.
For information about the available settings, click the Help button in the software.
  9. Click Save.
