How do hot folders work?

Each hot folder is created using Proofer Viewer and is configured with settings for a specific proofer and job type.

At any workstation in the network, after you receive or create a document, such as an Adobe InDesign file, you place it into the appropriate hot folder shortcut that was previously exposed on your desktop, or use Proofer Client software to drag the file to the hot folder in Controller Viewer.

Note: If you drop a file into a hot folder that already contains a file with the same name, the new file overwrites the existing file.

The proofer monitors the hot folder, automatically processes files according to the configured settings, and queues the files for processing before submitting them to the proofer queue. You can use Controller Viewer and Proofer Viewer to monitor progress, and optionally preview and adjust a proof before it is submitted to the proofer.

Can I edit the processing settings?

Only one person can edit a hot folder or virtual printer at a time, and the hot folder or virtual printer is locked during editing. However, you can open a locked hot folder or virtual printer, and click Save As to create a new hot folder or virtual printer, and edit it.

Can I send color-managed files?

Yes, you can turn off color management in a hot folder or virtual printer, so that your color-managed files are sent directly to the proofer. However, if you turn off color management, you can't use the Certified Process for Color Confirmation.
