To run in production proofing mode, Kodak Proofing Software requires a valid license and Sentinel USB SuperPro dongle. If the license and dongle are not available, you can run the software only in demo mode.

The dongle is a small hardware device that must be plugged into a USB port on the proofer controller each time you start the proofer controller software. The software verifies the dongle identifier (ID) and then activates its licensed features.

You can use the convenient Product License Activation System (PLAS) online tool to view, generate, or retrieve a license. Ater a Kodak representative enters the details about a software purchase or upgrade, PLAS stores the product name (or names), upgrade versions, editions, and feature options to which the customer is entitled. After the dongle is issued, this information is also registered to the dongle ID, and a license can then be generated.

Each license consists of a unique collection of alphanumeric characters, which are referred to as the license key. The license controls the availability of features and must be activated in the software before you can run proofers in production proofing mode.

You can obtain the license in the following ways:

Note: The procedures are described in greater detail in the upgrade documentation.

Automatically over the Internet

After you install the software, a click of a Kodak Proofing Software button can automatically retrieve and load the license key. Various requirements affect availability of this Get License feature, including the installed version being in full production, entitlement to that version registered in PLAS, an Internet connection available, and the dongle plugged in.

Manually over the Internet

You can go to the PLAS Web site, register a new dongle ID, check the associated entitlement, download the license file, and load the file manually into the software.

Directly from a service representative

If the upgrade entitlement is not yet registered, a service representative may be able to generate a license based on the dongle ID that you provide. When you receive the license file, you can load it manually into the software.
