Before connecting a printer to a new controller or the same network as the new controller, install the latest driver software for the Epson Stylus Pro model.

Requirements:

  • Printer driver on removable media or accessible via an Internet connection
  • Network or USB cable—it is strongly suggested that when adding a proofer, you use network connectivity. USB connectivity can be quite problematic.
  • The printer should be connected to the network and turned on.

Note: The Epson Stylus Pro x800 series of printers do not have built-in Ethernet cards. However, you can add network connectivity by purchasing an Epson-original Ethernet card and installing it on the proofer according to the manufacturer instructions.

If installing the driver software from removable media, start at step 4. Otherwise, start at step 1.

  1. In the Support area of the Epson website (http://www.epson.com/), locate the drivers and downloads page for the applicable Windows system and printer model (proofing edition).
Important: Each downloads page typically contains separate Windows 64-bit and Windows 32-bit lists—be sure to use the correct list. The currently shipping Kodak proofer controller is a Dell OptiPlex 64-bit Windows system.
Note: Some older printer models are not compatible with a 64-bit system. If a Windows 64-bit driver is not available, try the Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit driver, or ask an Epson service representative for an appropriate driver.
  2. Download the following items to an accessible location or (if using a different computer) to removable media for transfer to the controller:
    1. The latest printer driver software
    2. The latest utility software, including EpsonNet Config and Remote Panel.
If you cannot find the EpsonNet Config utility for your printer, try looking under EpsonPro 9900.
Note: Also download the latest firmware, to have ready when instructed to install.
  3. In the support area of the Epson Web site, locate and download the documentation (printer or user guide) that contains the instructions for installing the files.
  4. At the controller workstation, locate and double-click the Epson file (epson<xxx>.exe).
  5. When prompted, click Unzip to extract the files to the specified folder.
If a Windows security question asks if would you like to install this device software, click Install to confirm.
  6. When the installer window opens, follow the on-screen instructions until the installation is complete.
Note: You only need to install the drivers. The extra Epson utility programs are not necessary.

  7. When you receive a firewall warning, click Allow Access.

  8. Select the printer (this appears only if there is more than one printer on the network).

Note: SureColor P7000/9000 (Standard or Violet) printers all appear the same in this selection. As of KPS version 8.2, the Violet/Commercial Ink Configuration is supported.
  9. Follow the instructions in the Epson documentation to connect the printer to the network and to the workstation.
The printer now appears in the Start > Devices and Printers list.
