The inline spectrophotometer can measure only the color bars that are printed within a specific area of the sheet.

The inline spectrophotometer available with Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and 9900 proofers can measure color bars on proofs printed with roll media. (The inline spectrophotometer does not support sheet media.) However, the color bar must be placed within an area on the sheet that the inline spectrophotometer can measure. The gray area in the following graphic indicates the area on a sheet that the inline spectrophotometer can measure. You must place color bars inside this area if you want to measure them with the inline spectrophotometer.

The following table defines the measurable area (the gray area in the graphic).

MarginEpson Stylus Pro 7900Epson Stylus Pro 9900
TopThe measurable area starts 1.6 in (40.6 mm) from the top of the sheet.
LeftThe measurable area starts 1.57 in. (40 mm) from the left of the sheet.
Maximum width of
the measurable area

19.5 in. (495.3 mm)

The distance is actually 17.93 in. (455.4 mm) because it includes the short, unmeasurable distance of 1.57 in. (40 mm) at the left of the sheet.

39.5 in. (1003.3 mm)

The distance is actually 37.93 in. (963.4 mm) because it includes the short, unmeasurable distance of 1.57 in. (40 mm) at the left of the sheet.

BottomNot applicable, because the inline spectrophotometer only supports roll media (not sheet media).

Note: The distance reported in the table starts at the left edge of the sheet. In other words, the distance includes the short, unmeasurable area just inside the left margin. For color bars supplied by Kodak, a 1.57-in. (40-mm) white space is added to the left side of color bars. As a result, you can place the Kodak-supplied color bars at the left of the sheet. The white space in the color bar consumes the short, unmeasurable area at the left of the sheet and allows the color bar artwork to fall inside the measurable area.

The color bar cannot be wider than the measurable area available for the inline spectrophotometer on the Epson Stylus Pro 7900 or 9900 proofer. For example, the color bar must be less than 19 in. (482.6 mm) wide for the inline spectrophotometer on the Epson Stylus Pro 7900 to measure the color bar. In the Layout Editor, click Positions to see the size of the color bar selected in the layout.

In addition, color bars must be placed horizontally on the sheet for the inline spectrophotometer to measure them. The inline spectrophotometer cannot measure color bars placed vertically on the sheet.

When you create a layout, you may need to adjust the right margin to ensure that the color bar prints within the measurable area for the inline spectrophotometer.
