You can output versions of an output file in Prinergy Evo software. In order to use a versioning workflow in Prinergy Evo software, you must create version layers in your desktop software and output the different versions. You then create an imposition with the different versions and output one imposition file (PJTF or JDF).
When you submit the imposition file to Prinergy Evo software, you can determine which separations to output based on your versioning needs.
Versioning may require four-color or two-color changes on the press as well as black-only (K) changes. Prinergy Evo software, via the Process Start dialog box, Color Mapping dialog box, enables you to easily select only those separations you want to output to plate.
Recommendations
Use full-color composite PDF files for each version, because this format is standard, easy to create using QuarkXPress or InDesign, and will show you exactly how your customer expects each version to look.
Tips
The main issue for creating versioning proofs is to ensure that the K from one version fits with the CMY from another version. This can happen because your customers may use separate documents per version, allowing the document to be inadvertently modified in incompatible ways (for example, an image may get shifted in one version).
To prevent this problem:
- Produce all versions from a single layered document.
- In Prinergy Evo software output Prinergy Virtual Proofing System (VPS) software files (in the Output To list, select Virtual Proofing System), and open the files in the Prinergy Virtual Proofing System (VPS) software to preview or proof how the versions will appear on plate and press. This enables you to stop any problems before going to plate.
The advantages to using these recommendations and tips is that decisions on press run orders can be deferred until late in the prepress cycle. If all versions are supplied as four-color composite files, any version can be used as the base layer for the first press run, and then only K plates need to be made for the remaining versions. Also, jobs that were originally intended to be run on a single press can be run on two presses by designating a second version as the base and producing CMYK plates.
