Automatic spot color mapping in imposition marks files works only when outputting imposition files.

When you send an imposition file (PJTF or JDF), created in qualified imposition software (for example, Preps), to an output imposition submission channel (template palette or hot folder), Prinergy Evo software identifies the spot colors in the marks files and automatically maps them to specific spot colors in the imposition page content.
Note: Prinergy Evo software only maps the colors, it does not change any text labels that may be applied to the spot color mark. For example, if the Spot 1 Color mark includes the text "Spot 1," the color mark will be mapped to one of the page content's spot colors, but the text will remain as "Spot 1" in the output.

Prinergy Evo software supports automatic spot color mapping for:

  • Stock Preps color marks as well as custom-created marks
  • PJTF or JDF files created from a Preps mixed PostScript or PDF-to-PDF workflow
  • All qualified imposition software imposition marks files, as long as the spot colors in the marks files have the Preps syntax
  • Separated output-for example, output to Prinergy Virtual Proofing System (VPS) software
  • Composite output-for example, output to a four-color process printer

The following spot color names are automatically mapped to the following marks spot colors:

Note: Names in the first and second column include a space between the word Spot and the number.

The spot colors are not case sensitive. For example, Spot 1 is equal to sPoT 1.

The automatic mapping of content spot colors to the relevant marks spot colors occurs alphabetically. For example, if a page contains two spot colors: Blue Sky and PANTONE 123 CV, Prinergy Evo software maps the Blue Sky spot color to the Spot 1 marks spot color (or Spot 01 or SSiCustom101) and the PANTONE 123 CV spot color to the Spot 2 marks spot color (or Spot 02 or SSiCustom102).

Any spot colors that occur in the marks file but not in the page content, are automatically set to Do Not Output.

Automatic color mapping is the default option. However, if you submit the imposition file using an Output from Imposition process template icon on the template palette, and click Colors, in the Color Mapping dialog box, in the Process Start dialog box you can manually override the spot color mapping. In the Color Mapping dialog box, you can change the spot color mapping or in the Action box, set the spot color in the mark file to Do Not Output.

If in the output from imposition process template dialog box, Render section, Spot Color Handling box, you select Convert to Process, Prinergy Evo software will first map the spot colors to the marks files spot colors (for example, spot colors in a color bar) and then convert the spot colors to process. Therefore, your output will contain the proper marks content in CMYK process colors.

For example, you have a page containing CMYK and the spots colors-Blue Sky and PANTONE 123 CV-and you have a six-color, color-bar marks file. During output, you need Prinergy Evo software to convert the spot colors to process. Prinergy Evo software will first map the page spot colors to the correct marks spot colors-cyan, magenta, yellow, black, Blue Sky to Spot 1, and PANTONE 123 CV to Spot 2-and then convert the content on the page to process colors with the correct process color recipe.
