You may have configured a KPCS file to detect and use the resolution used in the RIP. Before using such a file with Prinergy software or Prinergy Evo software, read the following sections.

Prinergy and pages containing KPCS files

In Prinergy Workflow software and Prinergy Evo Workflow software, you refine pages to produce PDF files. The Normalize step of the refine process interprets the Plate Control Strip PostScript code and determines the resolution of the Plate Control Strip graphic content. However, you can’t specify resolution in a refine process plan. Prinergy Workflow and Prinergy Evo Workflow software normalize files at 2400 dpi, which is their standard installed configuration. As long as your device uses 2400 resolution, the Plate Control Strip works as expected.

If you are using a device with a different resolution, set Adobe Distiller to your device resolution, and then use it to distill the KPCS PostScript file and produce a PDF file. This correctly establishes the resolution of the Plate Control Strip graphic content to match the device resolution. You can then add the PDF page of the Plate Control Strip to the Prinergy Workflow or Prinergy Evo Workflow job.

To check the resolution of the Plate Control Strip in a page, open the PDF file in the Adobe Reader software and read the Platesetter/RIP Information section of the Plate Control Strip to see which resolution was used.

Prinergy and impositions using KPCS as a mark

You can add the Plate Control Strip file to an imposition as a mark, and then print the imposition to a job ticket. When you import the job ticket into Prinergy Workflow or Prinergy Evo Workflow, the software normalizes the mark and converts it to a PDF file. The Prinergy Workflow and Prinergy Evo Workflow import process normalizes marks at 2400 dpi in its standard, installed configuration. As long as your device uses 2400 resolution, the Plate Control Strip works as expected.

The 2400 dpi value that Prinergy Workflow and Prinergy Evo Workflow software use to normalize pages and marks is stored in their registries. If you are using a device with a resolution different than 2400 dpi, and you are adding the Plate Control Strip to an imposition template, contact your service representative to configure the Prinergy Workflow or Prinergy Evo Workflow registry to use the correct resolution. This change is permanent and is successful only if Prinergy Workflow or Prinergy Evo Workflow software is connected to devices of the same resolution.

If you have two or more devices of different resolutions connected to Prinergy Workflow or Prinergy Evo Workflow software, you need separate Plate Control Strips that specify the appropriate resolution for each device.
