Name of Cable | Image | Description |
---|---|---|
Thunderbolt 3 or 4 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 3 or 4 (USB-C) Cable | This cable is designed to work with monitors that have a high-res USB-C input using Thunderbolt 3 or 4. It will drive the monitor at its maximum resolution, up to 2 4K monitors, or one 8K monitor (Thunderbolt 4). However, 6 and 8K monitor support for Matchprint Virtual is untested at this time. For certain monitors, this cable may also need the USB-A to USB-B cable (with an adapter for the USB-A end for the Mac). | |
Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) to DisplayPort 1.4 Cable | This cable is an improved spec for use with Matchprint Virtual and Macs with USB-C ports, introduced in 2020. It will drive the monitor at its maximum resolution, up to 8K video. This newer version of cable supports DisplayPort 1.4, but is backwards compatible. However, 6 and 8K monitor support for Matchprint Virtual is untested at this time. For certain monitors, this cable can also act as an upstream cable to transfer colorimeter data to the Mac, so the USB-A to USB-B cable is no longer needed. | |
Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to DisplayPort Cable | This is the preferred digital signal cable for use with Matchprint Virtual and Macs with USB-C ports, introduced in 2018. It will drive the monitor at its maximum resolution. | |
Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable | This is the preferred digital signal cable for use with Matchprint Virtual and older Macs with no USB-C ports. It is typically shipped with most if not all monitors and will drive the monitor at its maximum resolution. | |
DVI Dual Link Cable Single link DVI employs a single 165 MHz transmitter that supports resolutions up to 1920 × 1200 at 60 | This cable is seen less frequently than the Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. Most new monitors still have the connections for it but are no longer shipping with these cables. | |
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter | This adapter was needed due to Mac Hardware no longer having DVI connections onboard. It is now used less frequently as new monitors come with the Mini DisplayPort to Display Port cables (not Dual-Link DVI cables). Dual-Link DVI can support resolutions up to 2560 × 1600 at 60 Hz. | |
HDMI cable | For Matchprint Virtual, HDMI cables can be used only if they can drive the monitor at its maximum resolution. Refer to the monitor specifications provided by the vendor. | |
USB A to B cable | This cable is required for use with Matchprint Virtual as it supplies communication from the monitor to our software, unless the Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) to DisplayPort 1.4 Cable is compatible with the monitor and Mac. |
