Use Prinergy Administrator's Network File Shares Configuration to set up or change the Mac file-sharing protocol of Prinergy and files on job or input volumes.

Prerequisites

  • All Prinergy server and client computers must be updated to the latest version of Prinergy Workflow.
  • All Mac client computers must be running supported versions of Mac OS X / macOS.
  • The protocol that you want to adopt must be qualified for the servers in your Prinergy system.
  • File shares must be created before you can define or convert the file-sharing protocol.
  1. Stop all archiving, purging, and retrieving activities:
    • If you use the Prinergy Rules-Based Automation (RBA) software and an enabled rule set uses the Archive/Retrieve JTP or Purge JTP, quit Prinergy to prevent the rule set from executing.
    • If you do not quit Prinergy, stop the Archive/Retrieve JTP or Purge JTP. Both JTPs are located on the Prinergy primary server or a secondary server.
  2. If you use SFM to support AFP, stop and disable the SFM services on all Windows operating system servers in the Prinergy system:
    1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. In the right pane, right-click File Server for Macintosh and select Properties.
    3. Click Stop.
    4. In the Startup type list, select Disabled, and click OK.
    5. In the right pane, right-click Print Server for Macintosh and select Properties.
    6. Click Stop.
    7. In the Startup type list, select Disabled, and click OK.
When SFM stops, all AFP shares are deleted so you do not need to manually remove AFP mappings.
  3. If you use ExtremeZ-IP to support AFP, uninstall it. From the Start menu, select Programs > ExtremeZ-IP > Uninstall ExtremeZ-IP File Server, and follow the prompts to uninstall ExtremeZ-IP.
  4. In Prinergy Administrator, select Tools > File Shares for Prinergy to display the Network File Shares Configuration dialog box.
The left pane displays the current file shares, indicating whether each file share can be used for job home and whether it is using the AFP or SMB file-sharing protocol.
  5. In the File Shares section, select all the volumes that you want to change to SMB with named forks.
  6. To allow the file share to be used for job home, select Share can be used for job home.
  7. Select Server Message Block (SMB) / Common Internet File System (CIFS), and select Named Forks.
  8. If you have a job volume on a Windows server, enable SMB with named forks on each share to ensure that all Mac client computers will connect using SMB with named forks.
    1. From a Windows client computer, connect to each Windows share.
    2. In the root folder, create a file named t.txt.
    3. Open a command-prompt window, and change drives to the Windows share's root folder.
    4. Run the following command:
      ren t.txt .com.apple.smb.streams.on
  9. Perform any of the following actions:
    • To make the share folder visible in Workshop immediately, stop Prinergy and then start it.
    • If you already stopped Prinergy, restart it.
    • If you stopped the Archive/Retrieve JTP or Purge JTP, restart it.

If you use integrated Preps on Mac client computers that are not in the same domain as the primary server, continue with Enabling Preps under SMB.
