You need to create reverse traps to keep away selected adjacent colors. You also need to change the shape of the traps.
Create a job
- If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
- In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
- Type the job name
XX_Reverse_Trap
(where <XX> represents your initials). - Click Create.
- Minimize the Job Manager window.
Copy an input file to the job folder and add input files to the job
- From your workstation, locate:
Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_41_Reverse Trap / Input File
- Restore Job Manager.
- Open the
Input File
folder. - Drag the
King Foil.pdf
file to the Job Manager's Input Files area. - In the Add Input Files dialog box that appears, under Options, click Select and select the 1stRef-Normz refine process template.
- Click OK.
Your file is copied to the UserDefinedFolders
folder. - In the Start Process dialog box, click OK to start the Refine process.
Color map the refined PDF page
- In the Pages pane, select
King Foil.p1.pdf
. - From the Process menu, select the process template: Refine > Refine > 2ndRef-MapColors.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click the Color Mapping button.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Dielines.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

Job (XX_Reverse_Trap) - Click OK.
- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following Trapping Information:
Opacity= Dieline
Alternate Color Space = 100% Black - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Blue Type.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

Job (XX_Reverse_Trap) - Click OK.
- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following Trapping Information:
Opacity= Opaque
Alternate Color Space = 100C, 50M, 20K - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Red Background.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following Trapping Information:
Opacity= Opaque
Alternate Color Space = 100M, 80Y - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select White Printer.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following Trapping Information:
Opacity= Opaque
Alternate Color Space = 20C - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, select Yellow Graphic.
- In the Color Information section, select Add.
- In the Select a Color Library dialog box, select the following:

Job (XX_Reverse_Trap) - Click OK.
- In the Color Editor dialog box, select the following Trapping Information:
Opacity= Opaque
Alternate Color Space = 20M, 100Y - Click OK.
- In the Color Mappings dialog box, click OK.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
Trap the PDF page using the PDF trap editor
- Open
King Foil.p1.pdf
in Adobe Acrobat - In Acrobat, click the Kodak PDF Trap Editor button on the toolbar to start PDF Trap Editor.
- Click the Trap Page icon.
- In the Trap Page section, enter a value of 0.2 pt (.06mm). Click the Trap Page button.
- Select Highlight Traps to view the elements that have been trapped.
- Close Acrobat and click Save.
- Select
King Foil.p1.pdf
and make a Loose Page VPS proof to view the trap results. Open the VPS files and use the color sliders to view the trap results. The traps should appear as normal.
- Quit the Virtual Proofing System software.
Edit the trap properties to create a "keep away" trap
- Reopen
King Foil.p1.pdf
in Acrobat. - In Acrobat, on the toolbar, click the Kodak PDF Trap Editor button.
- Select the Keep Away All Objects icon in the horizontal toolbar.
- Accept the defaults and click the Keep Away All Objects button.
- Inspect the file and confirm that there is "keep away" or a release between all colors. Use any appropriate technique for viewing.
Change the trap geometry
- Using the Select Trap tool, select the reverse trap around the yellow sunburst. Shift-select the reverse trap on the outside of the other yellow sunburst.
- In the Properties Editor, select Round from the Line Join Style. Click Apply.
- View the changes to the shape of the traps (use the zoom tool for effective viewing).
- Close the trapped PDF file and save the changes.
- Close XX_Reverse_Trap Job Manager.
