When you use process template actions, you can change the values in some of the process template settings. This ability is called process template overrides.

How it works

When you work with certain process template actions, the Rule Parameters Editor displays a section called Process Template Overrides. When you expand this section, you see a list of all the process template settings that you can control.

The actions that have process template overrides include:

Advantages

By using overrides, you can use the same process template in several different rule sets, even if the rules require different values for important settings. For example, you can have one refine process template, and override the ICC Profile setting in that process template each time you use the process template in a rule.
Overrides also reduce the need for complex branching to handle different devices, Harmony curves, and web growth profiles. In many situations, you can override a process template setting instead of using a branch or filter in the rule.

Restrictions and cautions

Process template settings can affect each other in important ways. When you adjust process template settings in the Process Template Editor, it prevents you from selecting meaningless or wrong settings. Each time you change a setting, the Process Template Editor instantly updates other settings, including the availability of other settings and even the options available in other settings.
When you adjust process template settings in RBA, the RBA system cannot re-create the complex interaction of hundreds of settings in all of the process templates. To prevent errors, you can change only the specific settings listed above.
Note: These restrictions do not apply when you program RBA in the Microsoft Visual Basic language.
