When characterizing the color response for a curve-controlled device condition, if you output the ColorFlow chart in the Print Characterization mode in Prinergy, you must define device curves for the device.

Note: If you output the ColorFlow chart by selecting a print curve in the Process Template, you do not need to define device curves for the device. 

 For pooled devices, the device curve that you define for the device becomes device curves for all pooled devices in the device condition. 

1. In a device condition, click the Device Curves icon .
2. In the Device Curves Definition dialog box, in the Curve Origin area, select Preset.
3. Select one of the following options:
   • Linear: a linear curve does not change the color output of a device—no calibration is applied during output.
   • 15% Cutback: a cutback curve can be used to compensate for the high dot gain/TVI (tonal value increase) of some screening methods. For example, you characterize a coldset web press that is printing on newsprint with Staccato 35.
   • 20% Cutback: if you previously characterized a device response with the 20% Cutback curve, you can continue to use it. For new characterization of high-gain device conditions, we recommended you select the 15% Cutback curve.
   • A print transfer curve that you created or a Harmony curve you imported in the Print Curves tab.
   • If the device condition is for the Flexographic press device type, select a preset curve designed for printing with Kodak Flexcel NX plates.
4. If the device condition is for the Flexographic Press device type, define bump and cutoff curve values.
5. To deliver device curves from the current state, select the Use Current State for Approved Snapshot check box. This lets you adjust and use device curves to reflect a change in press behavior, without needing to capture and approve a snapshot for production output.
6. To view the device curves you have defined, click View Curves.
7. Click OK.
