You can set a relative step limit to affect whether a trap will be generated between adjacent colors (objects), depending on the relative difference in their amounts of colorants (inks). If the relative difference in amounts of colorants between two objects is less than the step limit, then no traps are generated.
You can set the step limit for each colorant or for all colorants.

1. Setting the relative step limit for individual colorants:
   1. From within PDF Trap Editor, select the Detailed view of the Trap Page or Trap Selection dialog box.
   2. Click the Inks tab.
   3. In the colorants table, double-click the step limit cell for a chosen colorant.
   4. In the step limit cell, type the desired step limit.
2. Setting the relative step limit for all colorants:
   1. Select the Detailed view of the Trap Page or Trap Selection dialog box.
   2. Click the Inks tab.
   3. Double-click the Step Limit button in the header row of the colorants table.

   4. In the Step Limit dialog box, type the step limit value to use for all inks.
      The range is 1 to 100 percent.

      Relative Step Limit (%)	Result
      25 percent (default)	No trapping between adjacent objects if the relative difference in their amount of colorants is less than or equal to 25 percent. Traps are generated if the relative difference is over 25 percent.
      Lower value	More traps generated
      Higher value	Fewer traps generated

   5. Click OK.

The Step Limit column shows the newly entered step limit value.
