The face exposure (also known as front or main exposure) creates the printing surface and ensures that dots are firm enough to transfer ink properly, and resist impression and wear. However, the actual relief height is controlled by the depth of the backing of the plate. As a result, back exposure is critical for creating correct relief height. The longer the back exposure, the less the relief height. It is not the responsibility of Kodak service representatives to determine correct face and back exposures. This is the responsibility of the media representative, who understands the requirements of plate press performance and media response.
