Print the White Level and Opacity Chart and compare it to target samples in order to identify the white level or opacity to use for a Matchprint Inkjet printer.

Requirements:

  • A Matchprint Inkjet proofer with white ink, such as an Epson Stylus Pro WT7900 printer
  • A media configuration with white ink enabled

Kodak Proofing Software uses only white ink to print the White Level and Opacity Chart. No combination of CMYKW inks are used to print the chart, and no color management is applied.

  1. In Proofer Viewer, select ConfigureHot Folders.
  2. Click New.
  3. Perform the following actions:

    1. In the Media Configuration list, select a media configuration with white ink enabled.
    2. In the Halftone Handling list, select None.
    3. Set the remaining options as desired, and click Next.
  4. On the White Settings tab, select Use proofer white flood (for profiling), and click Print.
  5. Compare the printed chart to the target, such as a press sample or an Approval proof.

You may want to compare the whites on top of a black backing. It is recommended that you use a black backing as specified by CGATS.5 (ISO 5-4).

6. Identify the patch on the White Level and Opacity Chart that best simulates the white on the target, and remember the values (% and opacity) for the patch.

You will need the values later.

Note: If the desired white level is significantly different than your Media Configuration white level, it is recommended that you create a profile for that ink level. See Creating a proofer profile for a custom white level.
