Due to many functional and performance improvements in VPS+ 10.0, Kodak recommends that you download and install VPS 10.0 from PartnerPlace answer 75820.

See VPS+ 10.0 Release Notes.

VPS 10.0 is fully compatible with VPS files created in any version of Prinergy.

Prinergy Virtual Proofing System Plus (VPS+) is new software that displays allows you to preview the printed appearance of pages/artwork and impositions/layouts in full color on your workstation monitor. You can save time and money by using the Prinergy VPS+ software to identify errors before physical proofs or plates are made. Use Prinergy VPS+ software to check imposition/layouts, registrationallows you to verify image placement and content, impositions and layouts, layered PDF versioning, trapping, screening, image placement front and back registration, color breaks, overprints and knockouts.

The code base for VPS+ was developed to replace the original Kodak Virtual Proofing Software ("VPS Classic") has ) created more than 25 years ago.  The code base for VPS Classic reached the end of its development life, and is was not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina, 11.0 Big Sur, 12.0 Monterey and above. Prinergy users who need to do soft proofing on macOS 10.15 or 11.0 must use VPS+.

In VPS+, the functionality of VPS Classic has been merged with the functionality of Kodak TIFF Assembler Plus software. This combination of features provides a comprehensive suite of soft-proofing tools, as well as flexographic layout tools, and a toolkit of features for reformatting one-bit TIFF files.

To provide soft proofing capabilities for the latest Macintosh operating systems, Kodak TIFF Assembler Plus software was used as a code base into which the main features of VPS Classic were merged. In addition to providing a comprehensive set of soft-proofing and quality control tools for commercial offset, VPS+ also provides flexographic layout and powerful automated TIFF reformatting tools.

Some features of VPS Classic are not currently available in VPS+, but VPS+ is under active development and each new release of adds additional features and performance enhancements to continue to close the gap.

Kodak currently recommends that VPS+ only be installed on macOS systems which don't support VPS Classic. For legacy macOS and Windows systems, we recommend users continue to use VPS Classic until VPS+ has full feature parity. To support this recommendation, the Prinergy Workshop installer only installs VPS+ on macOS systems 10.15, 11.0 and 12.0. The Workshop installer continues to automatically install VPS Classic on all legacy macOS and Windows systems.

VPS+ Modes

Kodak Prinergy VPS+ provides Kodak Prinergy VPS+ can function in two different modes, depending on your production requirements. These modes can be switched in Preferences.

Commercial mode provides a simplified UI familiar to VPS Classic users, and is primarily for the viewing of impositions for digital and commercial offset printing requirements.quality control. Only Commercial Mode allows front and back viewing of impositions/layouts, with the ability to view imposition information, page edges, page numbers and type safety areas,

Packaging mode is primarily for flexographic printing requirements. This mode can be used to create flexographic plate layouts, and provides quality control and creation of flexo plate layouts. Packaging mode provides additional utilities and reformatting tools for one-bit TIFFs.Important note about VPS+ functionality

The initial 9.0.0 release of VPS+ has a critical functionality gap with VPS Classic, in that it cannot view and compare fronts and backs of an imposition. If front and back viewing is critical to your production workflow, it is recommended to keep your Mac OS at 10.14 and continue to run VPS Classic, if at all possible.

Front and Back viewing will be released with VPS+ 9.0.1.

By default, the Workshop installer only installs VPS+ on macOS 10.15 and 11.0. If the Workshop installers detect macOS 10.14 or below, or Windows OS, it will install VPS Classic. Kodak does not recommend the use of VPS+ on legacy OS, due to current functionality gaps.

For more information, see VPS+ Release Notes., LEN and TIFF files. VPS and TIFF files can be recalibrated, descreened, scaled or combined into a raster PDF file for import into step-and-repeat applications like Pandora. These operations can be automated by use of Hot Folders. There are additional features for seamless layouts (in-the-round or plate-on-sleeve imaging), and slug-based layouts for corrugated flexo printing.
