The rule sets that you imported in Setting up for manual data entry include two system-level rule sets: the PLA System Level Rule rule set and the PLA System Level Rule-Versatile Layout Home rule set. Only one system-level rule set for PLA can be in use at a time.

  • To store XML job tickets in a central repository, use the PLA System-Level Rule rule set.
  • To store XML job tickets in the newly-created job, use the PLA Versatile Layout Home rule set (procedure on this page).

The PLA System Level Rule-Versatile Layout Home rule set creates a job in Prinergy Workflow prior to PLA layout creation. Layouts are stored in each individual job, allowing for better file management and cleanup. With the use of a filter, this rule set also enables you to use the Copy Prinergy Job option for creating new PLA jobs.

Important: It is not possible to use the Copy Prinergy Job option if you locked the artwork in the original layout. If you need to copy a job with locked artworks, open the original layout and unlock the artwork prior to using this feature in PLA.

Note: A complete change of a job name in Prinergy is not supported with the Copy Prinergy Job option. However, if you add a prefix to the job name for identifying the print site location after it is sent from PLA, it requires the use of the PrinergyJobNamePrefix.propeties file to allow PLA to find the Prinergy Job to Copy. This file is found at  \\<servername>\Program Files (x86)\Kodak\LayoutAutomation\server\WEB-INF\classes. It is necessary to add each site location name and its associated prefix to this file following the syntax SampleName=SN. If you are using PLA Distributed Processing, please ensure that the PrinergyJobNamePrefix.properties file on the secondary server(s) contains the same information as the one on the main PLA server.

Important: When using this rule set, do not exceed the maximum length of a Microsoft Windows file path, 255 characters.

  1. Open PLA System Level Rule-Versatile Layout Home and configure the Create Job action.
    1. To open the Create Job action, double-click the line between the Filter Items and the Create Job actions.
    2. (Optional) At this point you can also set the locations of the Job Home ServerJob Home Share, and Job Group. If there are any server paths or share names in the sample rules that do not belong to the install environment, delete them from the Value lists.
    3. To open the Create Layout action, follow the Create Job path, and double-click the line between the Create Job and Create Layout actions.
    4. To set the Layout Output Path parameter (the location of the folder where you want the layout XML files to be generated), review what is used. If you accept the default, the layout XML files will be stored in the newly-created Prinergy Workflow job in UserDefinedFolders in a directory named PLA_Layouts.
    5. To close the Create Layout action, click OK.
  2. Save the rule set.
  3. Select the rule set and click Enable.
It is now set at the system level.
  4. (Optional) Select and enable the "delete" rule set that can be used with the PLA System Level Rule-Versatile Layout Home rule set.

No "delete" rule set is enabledDeleting a layout on the PLA Client deletes only the XML template in Layout Automation Manager and leaves the Prinergy Workflow layout untouched. Not applicable
PLA Delete Prinergy Layout - Versatile Layout Home

If enabled, deleting a layout in the PLA Client also deletes the corresponding layout in Prinergy Workflow.

Important: This rule is convenient for cleaning up outdated Prinergy Workflow layouts from the Packaging Layout Automation Client, but it also allows operators to accidentally delete layouts in Prinergy Workflow. Consider your work environment carefully before enabling this rule.

Use the pre-configured parameters. Double-click the line between the Remove Prinergy Layout and Delete corresponding PLA XML Layout actions to open the Delete Files action. Ensure that the Files to delete parameter is set as shown:

    The information between %triggerEvent.Previous.PreviousJob.Home% and
    %triggerEvent.RootEvent.LayoutName% must match the folder
specified in the Layout Output Path parameter of the PLA System Level Rule - Versatile Layout Home rule set.

If you used the default path, this folder is located at
    \UserDefinedFolders\PLALayouts

Setting up for manual data entry

%triggerEvent.Previous.PreviousJob.Home%
%triggerEvent.RootEvent.
