VPS+ was developed to replace the original Kodak Virtual Proofing Software (VPS Classic) created more than 25 years ago.  The code base for VPS Classic has had reached the end of its development life, and is was not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina, 11.0 Big Sur, 12.0 Monterey or and above.

In order to provide soft proofing capabilities for the latest mac Macintosh operating systems, the viewing features of VPS Classic have been merged with the functionality of Kodak TIFF Assembler Plus software in a new VPS+ code basewas used as a code base into which the main features of VPS Classic have been merged. In addition to providing a comprehensive set of soft-proofing and quality control tools, VPS+ also provides additional flexographic layout and power TIFF file reformatting tools.

VPS+ is still under active development and while there are still some functional gaps with VPS Classic, additional features and performance enhancements are added continue to close the gap with each new software release of VPS+.

Kodak currently recommends that VPS+ only be installed on macOS systems which don't support VPS Classic. For legacy macOS and Windows systems, we recommend users continue to use VPS Classic until there VPS+ has full feature parity. The Prienrgy To support this recommendation, the Prinergy Workshop installer automatically only installs VPS+ on macOS systems 10.15, 11.0 and 12.0. The Workshop installer continues to automatically installs install VPS Classic on all legacy macOS or and Windows OSsystems.

VPS+ Modes

Kodak Prinergy VPS+ can operate in two different modes, depending on your production requirements. These modes can be switched in Preferences.

Commercial mode provides a simplified UI familiar to VPS Classic users, and is primarily for viewing of impositions for commercial offset printing quality control. Only Commercial Mode allows front and back viewing of impositions/layouts., and the ability to view imposition, page edges, page numbers and type safety areas,

Packaging mode is primarily for flexographic quality control and creation of flexo plate layouts. Packaging mode provides a host of additional utilities and reformatting tools for VPS, LEN and TIFF files. TIFF files can be recalibrated, descreened, scaled or combined into a raster PDF for import into a step-and-repeat application like Pandora. All these operations can be automated by use of Hot Folders. There are additional features for seamless layouts (in-the-round or plate-on-sleeve imaging), and slug-based layouts for corrugated flexo printing.
